A February 2026 McKinsey Global Survey of more than 600 technology leaders, shows that leading CIO’s are weaving AI and data into their companies’ operating models to build intelligence-driven enterprises. This is resulting is a centre of gravity shift, from technology being a cost centre to technology being a value creator.
AI and data underpins this value creation. CIOs are investing in agentic automation to change data may be productised to generate new revenue streams.
To achieve this companies must also make deep changes in how they structure their technology. The top performing companies are aligning technology around unified data, standardised AI models and automated decision systems that serve as the control plane of the enterprise enabling decisions to happen within days instead of months.
AI is no longer seen as an experiment. Half of all companies surveyed identify AI as a priority investment. AI has become a business imperative to power long-term growth.
